Hungry ghost festival in taiwan

🏮 Hungry Ghost Festival in Taiwan 🏮

Every year, during the 7th lunar month, Taiwanese temples hold the Pǔdù (普渡) ceremony. This tradition is part of the Hungry Ghost Festival, where people pray for safety, prosperity, and peace while showing respect to wandering spirits.

✨ My Experience

Every year, I registered with the temple. Once I registered, the temple prepared a food hamper in my name. The hamper was placed together with many others as an offering during the prayers. After the chanting and rituals were complete, I could bring the hamper home.

For me, this act symbolizes receiving blessings and good fortune. The food, once offered and blessed, becomes a reminder that protection and prosperity are shared with my family.

🌸 Meaning Behind the Ceremony

  • It is a way to appease spirits so they do not bring misfortune.
  • It helps us accumulate merit (功德) for ourselves and our loved ones.
  • Bringing home the hamper is a sign of taking back blessings for the family.

🙏 I find it beautiful how this tradition combines respect for the unseen with a sense of gratitude and community. It reminds us to live with kindness, compassion, and thankfulness.

✨ Have you ever joined a temple ceremony like this? What was your experience? 🌟
